Aernnova in the Airbus Beluga XL

During the Paris Air Show, Le Bourget, Airbus announced the selection of all major structures suppliers of the new Beluga XL programme. In support of this programme Aernnova will participate with the design, industrialization, manufacturing and assembly of three sections of the rear fuselage.

Development activities will need more than 350,000 hours of direct product engineering that will employ more than 100 engineers during the development period.

Aernnova will also manufacture and assemble the aerostructures which will create more than 50 jobs, including some in the Aernnova Alava plant.

The current Beluga is a super transporter aircraft which transports large components of Airbus aircraft in production. It was designed by Airbus from the A300-600 with major modifications, and introduced in January 1996, with 5 in operation. The Beluga XL has been designed based on the current Airbus A330 and the increased length and width aims to provide an additional 30% capacity versus the current Beluga.

Aernnova began in 2004 their participation in projects of transformation of large transport aircraft, characterized by a high technical demands and response capacity (time to market), with the contract with Boeing for the development of the Swing Zone of the Boeing 747 Large Cargo Freighter, also conceived for the transport of structural sections to the final assembly lines. With this new contract Aernnova reinforces their capacities for participation in the development of this type of aircraft to consolidate its position in a niche market demanding strong engineering capabilities.
